Purpose
This knowledge base article explains why Servers Australia is transitioning customers from R1Soft to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, what this means for existing R1Soft customers, and how customers can access further information and documentation for Acronis.
Why Servers Australia Is Moving from R1Soft to Acronis
Servers Australia is transitioning away from R1Soft backups in favour of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud to provide customers with a more modern, scalable, and feature-rich backup and recovery platform.
Key drivers for this decision include:
Vendor direction and longevity: R1Soft is approaching end-of-life (EOL), with limited ongoing development and innovation.
Modern security requirements: Acronis offers built-in ransomware protection, malware scanning, and advanced security features not available in R1Soft.
Broader platform support: Acronis supports a wider range of operating systems, applications, and virtualisation platforms.
Improved performance and reliability: Faster backups, more efficient storage usage, and improved recovery options.
Unified platform: Acronis combines backup, disaster recovery, and cyber protection in a single solution.
This transition ensures Servers Australia can continue to deliver a secure, scalable, and future-proof backup service aligned with customer needs and industry best practice.
R1Soft Status – Grandfathered and Approaching End of Life
R1Soft is now considered a grandfathered service within Servers Australia.
Important points to note:
R1Soft will not receive new feature development.
The platform will become end-of-life (EOL), at which point it will no longer be supported.
Servers Australia will be actively engaging customers currently using R1Soft to plan and execute a migration to Acronis.
To minimise risk and disruption, customers are strongly encouraged to migrate before R1Soft reaches EOL.
No Expansion of Existing R1Soft Services
Effective immediately:
No additional resources (storage, agents, or capacity) can be added to existing R1Soft services.
Existing R1Soft services can continue to operate in their current state while migration planning occurs.
Any requirement for additional backup capacity, new servers, or enhanced functionality requires a move to Acronis.
This approach allows Servers Australia to focus operational effort on a single, supported backup platform.
