What are the backup file types in cPanel

cPanel / WHM offers a variety of different backup solutions built into the software, amongst these there are also paid third-party options that can be integrated as well. 

The included options within a cPanel account and what their filetypes & coverage are, are listed out below:

FULL BACKUP

The file format for a full cPanel backup is typically named as "backup-0.00.0000_00-00-00_username.tar.gz". It includes your entire cPanel User Home directory, User Domains, Databases, Emails, Email Forwarders, Filters, and Settings.

PARTIAL BACKUPS

Home Directory Backup: 

The file format for a cPanel User Home directory backup is typically named as "backup-domain.tld-0-00-0000.tar.gz". It will only contain your User Home directory.

MySQL Database Backup: 

The file format for a MySQL backup is typically named as "database_name.sql.gz". It includes your cPanel User MySQL databases.

Email Forwarders Backup: 

The file format for an email forwarder’s backup is typically named as "aliases-domain.tld.gz". It includes your cPanel User Email Forwarders.

Email Filters Backup: 

The file format for an email filter’s backup is typically named as "filter_info.username.yaml.gz". It includes your account-level and user-level email filters.
