This guide outlines the process to download content from your server from within your cPanel account via the Acronis plugin.
To begin, log in to your cPanel account. Click on the “Acronis Backup” plugin, found under the “Files” category within your cPanel.

Click on the backup you would like to restore from. In this example, we will use the latest backup at the top.

Within the Backups tab in Acronis, you can download specific data directly to your local machine rather than performing a restore to the server. The available categories allow you to selectively download different parts of a cPanel account or the account in its entirety. Each section can be accessed by clicking on it as per the screenshot below; Domains, Files, Mailboxes, and Mail forwarders:
Below are workflows and explanations for each downloadable option via the Acronis plugin for cPanel.
Domains:
This section includes your website content, namely the public_html folder. You can only download domains that existed on the cPanel account at the time the Acronis backup was created.
In your cPanel account, this option lets you download the public_html folder of the selected domain from the server’s backup. Browse through the selected backup point, and choose the domain you want to download.
After you select “Download”, a dialogue box will appear with additional options. This is providing you with an option to exclude any subdomain or add-on domains that may be attached to the domain you are downloading.
In this example lets not exclude any subdomains or add-on domains and press “Start Recovery”:
Once you hit “Download” the task will queue up and you will see progress on this screen. Once it is marked as successful you can select to download the file to the machine you are currently accessing cPanel via, as highlighted below:
This will download a .zip format of the domains public_html folder and does not include databases for the domain.
Files:
This section includes all available files from your server. You can only download files that existed on the cPanel account at the time the Acronis backup was created.
In your cPanel account, this option lets you download selected files from the server’s backup. Browse through the selected backup point, navigate to the desired directories, and choose the files you want to download.
Once you hit “Download” the task will queue up and you will see progress on this screen. Once it is marked as successful you can select to download the file to the machine you are currently accessing cPanel via, as highlighted below:
This will download a .zip file of the selected files you wish to download.
Mailboxes:
This will allow the download of all email accounts, and their contents, for each mailbox on the selected domain. You can only download mailboxes that existed on the cPanel account at the time the Acronis backup was created.
In your cPanel account, this option lets you download all mailboxes from existing domains from the server’s backup. Browse through the selected backup point, and choose the domain you want to download mailboxes from.
Once you hit “Download” the task will queue up and you will see progress on this screen. Once it is marked as successful you can select to download the file to the machine you are currently accessing cPanel via, as highlighted below:
This will download a .zip file that contains all email and various dovecot files attached to the mail account.
Mail forwarders:
This will download all email forwarders configured for the domain and available from the backup. You can only download mail forwarders that existed on the cPanel account at the time the Acronis backup was created.
In your cPanel account, this option lets you download all mail forwarders from existing domains from the server’s backup. Browse through the selected backup point, and choose the domain you want to download mail forwarders from.
Once you hit “Download” the task will queue up and you will see progress on this screen. Once it is marked as successful you can select to download the file to the machine you are currently accessing cPanel via, as highlighted below:
This will download a .zip file, that will contain a file exampledomain.com.au in an .AU format. This can then be opened with a text editor to see the existing mail forwarders in place on the cPanel account.
