Finding the App Launchpad

After logging into your Organisation on vCloud Director, click the “More” drop-down on the top menu to find the App Launchpad option.



Once you have entered the App Launchpad area, you will have two options available in the submenu along the top.

  • Application Marketplace
  • My Applications

The Application Marketplace is the area in which you can search for new applications to add to your Virtual Data Centre, and once an application has been added, it will display on the My Applications page.

Our Application Catalogue

New applications can be launched from our catalogue in the Applications Marketplace. There are three areas in this page from which you can find the application you would like to launch.

  • The App Launchpad search bar
  • Our range of featured Applications
  • The full catalogue found under All Applications

Our featured Applications section contains base VM images for the most commonly used Linux distributions, the mist recent version of Windows Server, applications for quickly starting a cPanel server, and an OpenVPN Access Server application. Our catalogue also includes select applications from the Bitnami catalogue, so if you are looking for something more specific than a base OS image, try browsing through All Applications, or searching for what you are looking for.

Launching an Application

Once you have located the application you would like to launch, click the Launch button for the application.


After naming your application, the “Show Details” option will become available. You will want to review settings in this section prior to hitting the Launch Application button.


Settings that will require your attention are the application size, network, and storage profile.

First, if you have multiple VDCs, select the appropriate VDC from the “Location” drop-down menu.



Next, select a size for the application that suits your needs for the applications' resources.


The next settings you will want to check are the network and storage profile settings. To view these settings, first, click “Show Advanced Settings” found below the application size options.


After clicking this option, you will see two drop-down boxes for the network and storage profile.


From these boxes, find the network that the application should use, and select an appropriate storage profile for the storage and I/O speeds that the app will require.

Finally, click “Launch Application” to create the new application. After this, you will then be taken to the “My Applications” page, which will show the application being created.

Once the application says that it is running, then the VM is created, and powered on. From this point, you will be able to create firewall rules to allow access to the VM, or open a console, and log into the VM directly.



How do I find my initial root login credentials for the application?

Once the application has been created, it will show up as a vApp in the VDC that it was created for. Navigate to that VDC, by clicking the “Data Centers” option in the top menu, and then the appropriate VDC in the main section.

Click on vApps in the left-hand menu, then “Details” in the box for the new application.


Next click on Virtual Machines, then the name of the VM in the vApp.


This will bring up the details for the VM. Click "Guest OS Customization", and then "Edit".



On the next page, you will see a temporary password that can be used for the initial log in to the VM. After logging in, you will be prompted to update this password.
