What is DDoS Protection?
A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack attempts to overwhelm online services with excessive traffic, potentially affecting the availability of websites, applications, or infrastructure. At Servers Australia, we take this threat seriously and have built-in protections designed to maintain service uptime and performance.
Our Protection Strategy
Servers Australia employs a dual-layer DDoS protection approach:
✅ Upstream Filtering
Our network is connected to multiple global transit providers who monitor and filter malicious traffic before it reaches our infrastructure. This protects against high-volume attacks, including volumetric floods and reflection/amplification-style events.
✅ Smart Filtering at the Network Edge
All incoming traffic — whether from transit or peering connections — is subject to intelligent filtering at the edge of our network. These dynamic filters help detect abnormal patterns and block or rate-limit malicious traffic.
How It Works in Practice
Mitigation is automatic and always active
Traffic is continuously monitored by our upstream providers and edge routers.Attacks are stopped as close to the source as possible
Most large-scale attacks are filtered upstream. If traffic reaches our edge, additional filtering is applied.Protection varies by traffic path
Our network uses multiple upstream providers. While all offer DDoS mitigation, their internal policies and filtering capabilities may differ. This means customer experiences during an attack can vary slightly depending on the route traffic takes.
Customer Impact
No customer setup required – DDoS protection is built into our network as a default feature.
No impact on regular traffic – Legitimate users are unaffected by protection mechanisms.
Focused on uptime – Our priority is to maintain stable, high-performing services even during potential attacks.
What's Not Included (Yet)
At this time, we do not offer:
Custom mitigation policies per customer
Attack telemetry or real-time dashboards
Per-customer alerting or logs
We're actively exploring these features for future release.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is DDoS protection included in my service?
Yes. All Servers Australia services are protected by default, with no additional licensing or configuration required.
Will I know if my service is under attack?
We don’t currently offer automated alerts or dashboards for customer-facing visibility, but this is under consideration.
Can I request custom rules or thresholds?
Not at this time. Protections are applied network-wide to ensure consistency and performance.
What happens if an attack exceeds capacity?
Our providers take protective action to preserve service stability — this may include upstream filtering or, in extreme cases, temporary null-routing to contain an attack’s impact.
Looking Ahead
We are committed to improving our DDoS protection capabilities. Future enhancements may include:
Customer-specific dashboards
Real-time alerting
Custom mitigation tiers or routing options
