Setting up whitelists in Windows Firewall

Prev Next

This article will guide you through the steps required to set up Whitelisting for a specific service in the Windows firewall.

Assuming you're logged into your system and at the Windows Desktop already, use your Start Menu's Search feature & search Windows for 'firewall' and click on 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security':

The preceding Window should look similar to the below:

From here, select 'Inbound Rules', then select the service you would like to add the whitelist to. For example, we'll use Remote Desktop.

Starting with 'User Mode (TCP-In)', we'll Right-Click and go to 'Properties':

After the Properties dialogue box has opened, select the 'Scope' tab, followed by clicking 'These IP Addresses' under the Remote section, then 'Add':

Add the desired address, subnet or other in the field and click 'OK':

Repeat the last few steps should there be more addresses to add, otherwise click 'OK' again when done:

The specified services will now be restricted to the set IP Address/s.
