How to restore a cPanel account in WHM using Acronis Backup

This guide outlines the process to perform domain restorations within WHM via the Acronis plugin.

  1. To begin, log in to WHM and enter “plugins” into the search box at the top left.

    Then click on the Acronis Backup plugin link on the left, then click the Backups tab on the main page.

  2. Click on the backup you would like to restore from. In this example, we will use the latest backup at the top.

  1. Click on the “Accounts” option, as we are wanting to restore an existing cPanel account on the server.

  2. Once the account section is loaded you can select whichever account you would like to either “Recover” or “Download”. Once you have selected your account click “Recover”:

  3. After you select Recover, a dialogue box will appear with additional options:

    • Overwrite the existing account
      Restores the backup over the current account, replacing all existing files, databases, and settings. Use this when you want the account returned exactly to the backup state.

    • Change the user name
      Restores the backup as a new cPanel account with a different username. Useful for testing, cloning, or avoiding conflict with an existing account.

    • Assign a dedicated IP address
      Restores the account and assigns it a specific dedicated IP instead of the server’s shared IP.

    • Skip recovery of databases
      Restores the account but does not restore MySQL/MariaDB databases.

    • Skip recovery of home directory
      Restores the account configuration but does not restore files in /home/username. Useful if you only need databases or settings restored.

  4. In this example we are going to just “Overwrite the existing account”, which would be the most likely restore scenario to resolve website issues. Select the tick box and hit “Start Recovery”:
