# Increase Disk Size of a VM in VDC

## How to Increase the Disk Size of a VM in vCloud Director

VMware vCloud Director is a leading cloud service-delivery platform used by some of the world’s most popular cloud providers. It’s also a powerful tool for managing virtual environments, including the ability to increase the disk size of a virtual machine (VM). Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

## Step 1: Select the VM

## Step 2: Modify the Hard Disk

## Step 3: Increase the Disk Size

> Guest OS Disk Changes

> Don’t forget to increase the filesystem inside the guest operating system so that you can actually use the new space. Whilst this makes the physical disk larger as far as the Operating System is concerned, it doesn’t change the partitions.

> Please note that increasing a VM’s disk size is a one-way operation. Once a disk has been expanded, it cannot be shrunk without creating a new disk. Always ensure you have a backup of your data before making significant changes to a VM’s configuration.
