# How to import a Protection Plan

This guide details the process of importing a Protection Plan into your Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud tenant.

**Protection Plans** are the Acronis equivalent of a backup “policy”, “job” or “schedule” found in other data backup solutions. These plans manage the scope, schedule, retention period and application awareness of your backup tasks, as well as a variety of other more advanced options.

> **NOTE: At least ONE** Protection Plan must be assigned to a registered workload for backups to operate.

> [!WARNING]
> **NOTICE:** The steps in this guide can only be completed by an Acronis portal user with Cyber Protection **Administrator** or **User** permissions.
> 
> However, a Cyber Protection **User** will only be able to view and use Protection Plans imported by their own individual user.

## Navigating to the Protection Plans section

1. Log in to the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud portal, found here: [*h*](https://backup.aci.servercontrol.com.au/login)[*ttps://backup.aci.servercontrol.com.au/login*](https://backup.aci.servercontrol.com.au/login)

1. ## Importing a Protection Plan

> Before you import a Protection Plan from your local device, you’ll need to download one.
> 
> You can find a repository of SAU curated Protection Plans here: [**Protection Plan templates**](/v1/docs/protection-plan-templates)

2. A file explorer window will open. Find and select the relevant downloaded Protection Plan to import it. You can even select more than one at a time! Once imported, the Protection Plan(s) will appear in the list near the centre of the window. You’ve successfully imported an Acronis Protection Plan!

If you’d like to import another Protection Plan later, simply repeat the steps in the [**Importing a Protection Plan**](/v1/docs/importing-a-protection-plan#importing-a-protection-plan) section.

## Cloning a Protection Plan

> **NOTE:** Acronis Protection Plans can be shared across multiple backup workloads. Any edits made to an active plan will reflect upon **ALL** workloads protected by this plan. If you wish to modify a plan (e.g. change retention period) for a single workload that is protected by a shared plan, you will need to **clone** this plan.

1. To clone a Protection Plan, select the relevant plan and click the “**Clone**” option on the right side of the window. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/d809f158-d4f4-47ff-83d4-18d9c9f7a04d/Images/Documentation/image-0RYJ2S30.png)
2. When cloning a Protection Plan, the “**Create protection plan**” utility will open, automatically appending “**(clone)**” to the end of the Protection Plan’s name. If you wish to clone any other Protection Plans, or even the same plan multiple times, simply repeat the steps in the [**Cloning a Protection Plan**](/v1/docs/importing-a-protection-plan#cloning-a-protection-plan) section.
