Delete DNS records from WHM and cPanel

Prev Next

You have just entered a new "A" record for your domain - the change has gone through, and you realise you made a mistake and you need to delete the record. In both WHM and cPanel, this task is very simple.

WHM

  1. Log into WHM utilising your server’s hostname or IP Address
    (eg, https://server.mydomain.com.au:2087 or http://221.121.121.221:2087)

  1. In the search box type in 'DNS Zone Manager' and click the corresponding result underneath

  1. Find the domain you wish to make changes to using the search box and select "Manage"

  1. Find the entry you want to delete, an example in this case will be our 'test' TXT Record

  1. Press the "Delete" button on the same line as the record to delete it and confirm you wish to proceed.

  1. This will now remove the corresponding DNS record. As shown below our "test.ultimatetest.com.au."record is gone:

Please Note

DNS Changes are not instant, and usually takes several hours to propagate locally, but can take up to 48 hours to see globally, but usually happens much faster.

cPanel

  1. Log in to your cPanel account, and scroll down to click on the "Zone Editor" icon.
If you're unsure of the URL for logging into cPanel, you can try https://mydomainname.com.au:2083 or pass-through from WHM directly:

  1. Repeating similar steps from earlier, select the domain you wish to delete records from by clicking 'Manage' on the corresponding line:

  1. Click "Delete" on the desired record to remove it.

  1. You will then be prompted to confirm deleting this record as shown:

  1. The record will now be deleted:
